Maybe August faces
news to us

apr 19 - DRUMMER NEEDED !!!!!
maybe august is looking for a new drummer. We need someone good(obviously,) creative, hard-working, dependable, & able to travel to out-of town gigs occasionally. We TRY to rehearse once a week, but we will be flexible for the right drummer....

Pay will be discussed, per gig pay will be good.

mar 27 - STUDIO REPORT 3.27.06:

Rosco here,

We're about 90% done, which means we have about 30% left to do.......it is amazing how time gets away from you in that environment.

My friend Michael Peloquin from Oakland, CA did a fantastic job of charting horn arrangements for our songs Lies & Naked. He recruited some heavy San Fran players to record the parts out there. I added harp to them down at Big Sky in Ann Arbor. Technology rocks.

I'd like to thank my bud Kirk Mosher for the use of his Sonny Jr. harp amp to record last weekend. This is a great sounding amp custom built for harmonica. Very, very cool.

All the songs sound good. My highlights so far, besides the horns, are the drum part & bass lines in Naked, Mike's slide solo in The Light, the whole song Greener, Scotty's vocals on Cold & Amanda Lynn, & the harp tone on Cold.

I'm pumped about this project.

feb 23 - Studio Report, 2.23.06

Rosco here.

Scott & I spent the day at Big Sky today, mostly doing Scott's lead vocals. Geoff & Greg got a GREAT vocal sound for Scott, using a kick ass high end AKG mic & a sweet vintage tube pre-amp. I was able to do the harmony vocal on Naked using a magical Neuman U48 (I think.) I love that mic for my voice. Naked is the song that has benefited the most from Geoff & Greg's production. This song has really come to life!! Scott is stellar on Lies & Amanda Lynn.

We have a lot of vocal stuff left to do, & some guitar & harp odds & ends. I'm excited about my friend Michael Peloquin's horn charts for Lies & Naked. We will have three & four part horn sections on those two songs. I can't wait to hear them.

Whether people dig the songs or not, (I think most will) this CD is going to sound fantastic. The production is first rate but we are managing to keep it 'real' sounding. It should be done early April. We will schedule CD release parties when we can pin down a release date.

jan 31 - m.a.in the studio!!!

Rosco here:

We spent Fri., Sat. & Sun at Big Sky Sudio in Ann Arbor. We accomplished all we set out to do, which was mostly get all the drum tracks done & as much bass & rhythm guitar as possible. This recording will be a little different in that we asked Geoff & Greg at Big Sky to give way more "producer" type suggestions. Those guys have SO much experience, mostly great ideas, & incredible ears for catching little things we would not notice until too late. They helped us to build very solid rhythm parts, even to the point of significantly changing the feel of some tunes. We think the end result will be VERY solid & big. Credit goes to Mike, Keith & especially Todd for working VERY hard & being completely open to suggestions for improving our songs. Scott & I mainly did scratch parts ( tracks that help keep place in a song that will not be used) & gave mostly bad 'assistant producer' advice.

Next weekend we will start building vocal tracks & solos.

jan 24 - White's on Sat night was kick ass. thanks to everyone who made it out. you got to hear Mike tear it up all night long!!

m.a. goes into the studio this weekend to lay down rhythym tracks for the new, as yet untitled, CD. We feel very good about the new songs & we can't wait to see what comes out of Big Sky Studio down in AA.

We have a somewhat light scedule in the next couple months to make time to finish the recording. We hope to see a bunch of you at the gigs we do have.

jan 11 - Happy Birthday to Scotty R. Superstar!!!

jan 9 - Chicago trip:

Rosco here.

m.a had a very fun & succesful trip to chicago. The trio gig at The Pint was fun & we played great. A huge shout out to KCS for making the gig. You are a great supporter, my friend. Thanks to the Gojangles group for having us--we will be doing it again (as the full band) I'm sure. The Pint seems like a fun place to hang out in Chicago. Check it out when you are there.

Friday at Wise Fools Pub was way too much fun & also an interesting study in psychology. I have a whole new appreciation for Todd after seeing what a bee-atch some drummers can be--remember, there's no crying in rock & roll.(BTW, We're NOT talking about Hello Dave's drummer here)
The place was about 3/4 full for our show & we did a great 50 minute set. Mike & Todd especially were rocking big time.
Ash Avenue played after us & they did a very good show after such emotional drummer drama. (Ask us in person)
They have cool pop-rock tunes with big hooks. I liked 'em.

Hello Dave is flat out one of the best bands I've seen in a club. The doorman said it was the biggest crowd he's ever seen at WFP. High energy, professional presentation, great songs. These guys are Chicago's finest, & to a man they are good guys. They also have the best looking crowd I've ever seen. We hung out ALL night & ALL morning with Mike the HD guitar player. The early morning condo jam with Mike & Mike was the kinda shit I live for. Thanks, Magoo, & thanks Mike-e for staying up.

We went to see Bumpus Sat. at Metro. Damn!! Pat C. says they remind him of early Prince.... I hear that. To me they are more like Mahalia Jackson meets James Brown. This is the funkiest band I've ever seen. INCLUDING Walter Washington's band (& that is saying something.) Intelligent songwriting, deep grooves, sophisticated arrangements, funky-ass horns, hip guitar, great singing & harmony vocals.
I LOVED it.

Of course, every trip to Chicago is an occasion to visit Lonie Walker's Underground Wonderbar. Luis Ewerling's regular Thurday night gig there with his band Cor de Brazil is a must hear show. Luis is one of the WORLD'S best drummers, & his band was on FIRE this trip. Luis is one of those 'been there, done that' guys who's is happy to STILL be here, & doing that-- playing great music. Luis is another genuinely nice guy. All his band is great, but I love what Ernie Denov brings on guitar. Imagine Steve Vai playing Brazillian music.
Thanks to Lonie for having the coolest music bar in Chicago. Sort of like White's with Chicago level talent EVERY night!!

"If I had a million dollars" I'd blow it all in Chicago in a couple months.....but I'd be the happiest 7-11 overnight clerk in the world.
